The leader of a truly global electronics and entertainment conglomerate covering the entire value chain, from hardware through to content creation, production and distribution, will discuss virtual reality, artificial intelligence, robotics, and the future of creative technology.
Kazuo Hirai, President and CEO of Sony Corporation will keynote at this year’s USC Global Conference, which will take place at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo from September 21 – 23, 2017. Hirai will join USC School of Cinematic Arts Dean Elizabeth Daley in conversation on Friday, September 22 at 9:30am.
Hirai and Daley will discuss the future of creative technology in new consumer market segments such as virtual reality, artificial intelligence and robotics, as well as how Sony is expected to lead in these emerging fields.
Hirai will also discuss his own journey as a Sony “lifer,” after joining CBS/Sony Inc. (now Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc.) out of college in 1984. In CBS/Sony, Hirai was involved in the marketing of international music in Japan, and later headed the international business affairs department.
In 1995, Hirai joined Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA, now Sony Interactive Entertainment America LLC), and in 1999 was appointed President and Chief Operating Officer, SCEA with responsibility for overall operational management of the U.S. game business.
In 2006, Hirai was appointed President and Group Chief Operating Officer, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI, now Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc.), extending his responsibilities to the game business worldwide.
From 2007, Hirai served as President and Group Chief Executive Officer, SCEI during which time he played a pivotal role in elevating the industry into a hugely significant genre, while at the same time making the PlayStation brand synonymous with exceptional gaming and entertainment.
In 2009, Hirai was appointed President of Networked Products & Services Group, Sony Corporation, enabling him to drive new integration and innovation across Sony’s networked products and services.
Hirai has been President and CEO of Sony Corporation since April 2012, and was appointed a director of the Sony Board in June 2012.
Under Hirai’s leadership over the past 5 years, Sony has undergone a transformation in which it has turned around loss-making businesses and launched a succession of innovative and compelling new products, leaving the company poised to record an operating profit of $4.5 billion in the next fiscal year, its biggest in nearly 20 years.
